Description
Authentic Carne Guisada is a traditional Puerto Rican beef stew that is hearty and flavorful.
Ingredients

- 2 lbs beef chuck, cut into cubes
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 1 onion, chopped
- 1 bell pepper, chopped
- 4 cloves garlic, minced
- 2 tomatoes, diced
- 1 cup beef broth
- 1 teaspoon cumin
- 1 teaspoon oregano
- 1 bay leaf
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 2 potatoes, peeled and cubed
Instructions
- Heat olive oil in a large pot over medium heat.
- Add beef cubes and brown on all sides.
- Remove beef and set aside.
- Add onion, bell pepper, and garlic to the pot. Sauté until softened.
- Stir in tomatoes, beef broth, cumin, oregano, bay leaf, salt, and pepper.
- Add the browned beef back into the pot.
- Cover and simmer for 1.5 hours.
- Add potatoes and cook for another 30 minutes until tender.
Notes
- Serve with rice or tostones.
- Adjust seasoning as needed.
- For a thicker stew, let it simmer uncovered for the last 20 minutes.
