Ingredients

  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 1/2 cups white sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 3 to 4 cups powdered sugar
  • 2 tablespoons meringue powder
  • water as needed

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. In a bowl, mix flour, baking soda, and baking powder.
  3. In a separate bowl, cream butter and sugar together.
  4. Add egg and vanilla to the butter mixture, mix well.
  5. Gradually add dry ingredients to wet ingredients.
  6. Roll out dough and cut into shapes.
  7. Place cookies on a baking sheet.
  8. Bake for 8 to 10 minutes.
  9. Cool cookies completely before icing.
  10. Mix powdered sugar, meringue powder, and water to make royal icing.
  11. Decorate cookies with icing as desired.
