Description
Classic sugar cookies topped with royal icing.
Ingredients
Scale
- 2 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
- 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 1 1/2 cups white sugar
- 1 egg
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 3 to 4 cups powdered sugar
- 2 tablespoons meringue powder
- water as needed
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
- In a bowl, mix flour, baking soda, and baking powder.
- In a separate bowl, cream butter and sugar together.
- Add egg and vanilla to the butter mixture, mix well.
- Gradually add dry ingredients to wet ingredients.
- Roll out dough and cut into shapes.
- Place cookies on a baking sheet.
- Bake for 8 to 10 minutes.
- Cool cookies completely before icing.
- Mix powdered sugar, meringue powder, and water to make royal icing.
- Decorate cookies with icing as desired.
Notes
- Store cookies in an airtight container.
- Use food coloring for icing if desired.
- Allow icing to dry completely before stacking cookies.
