Danish Carnival Buns filled with creamy vanilla custard.


Ingredients

  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup warm milk
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 packet active dry yeast
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 cups vanilla custard

Instructions

  1. In a bowl, combine warm milk and yeast. Let it sit for 5 minutes.
  2. Add sugar, butter, eggs, and vanilla extract. Mix well.
  3. Gradually add flour and salt. Knead until smooth.
  4. Let the dough rise for 1 hour in a warm place.
  5. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
  6. Punch down the dough and divide into small balls.
  7. Flatten each ball and place a spoonful of custard in the center.
  8. Fold the dough over the custard and seal.
  9. Place on a baking sheet and let them rise for 30 minutes.
  10. Bake for 20-25 minutes until golden brown.

  • Use fresh yeast for better results.
  • Make custard ahead of time and chill.
  • Brush with melted butter after baking for shine.
