Description

A classic Italian dessert with layers of coffee-soaked ladyfingers and creamy mascarpone.


Ingredients

  • 6 egg yolks
  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 2/3 cup milk
  • 1 1/4 cups heavy cream
  • 1 cup mascarpone cheese
  • 1 cup strong brewed coffee, cooled
  • 1/4 cup coffee liqueur (optional)
  • 24 ladyfinger cookies
  • Cocoa powder for dusting

Instructions

  1. Whisk egg yolks and sugar in a bowl until pale.
  2. Heat milk in a saucepan, then slowly add to the egg mixture.
  3. Cook over low heat, stirring until the mixture thickens.
  4. Remove from heat and let cool.
  5. In another bowl, whip heavy cream to soft peaks.
  6. Fold mascarpone into the cooled egg mixture.
  7. Gently fold in whipped cream.
  8. Mix coffee and liqueur in a shallow dish.
  9. Dip ladyfingers in coffee mixture, then layer them in a dish.
  10. Spoon mascarpone mixture over ladyfingers.
  11. Repeat layers, finishing with mascarpone.
  12. Chill for at least 4 hours.
  13. Dust with cocoa powder before serving.

  • Use strong coffee for best flavor.
  • Chilling overnight improves taste and texture.
