- 1 cup Guinness stout
- 1 cup unsalted butter
- 3/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 2 cups granulated sugar
- 1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
- 1 1/2 teaspoons baking soda
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 2 large eggs
- 1 cup sour cream
- 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
- 1 cup powdered sugar
- 1/2 cup Irish cream liqueur
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.
- In a saucepan, combine Guinness and butter over medium heat until melted.
- Whisk in cocoa powder until smooth.
- In a large bowl, mix flour, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
- Add the Guinness mixture, eggs, sour cream, and vanilla. Beat until smooth.
- Pour the batter into prepared pans.
- Bake for 30-35 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean.
- Let the cakes cool for 10 minutes, then remove from pans.
- Make the buttercream by beating butter, powdered sugar, and Irish cream until fluffy.
- Frost the cooled cakes with the Irish buttercream.
Notes
- Store leftover cake in an airtight container.
- For a stronger flavor, add more Guinness to the buttercream.
- Let the cake sit for a few hours before serving for best flavor.
