Description

A rich and moist chocolate cake infused with Guinness stout, topped with creamy Irish buttercream.


Ingredients

  • 1 cup Guinness stout
  • 1 cup unsalted butter
  • 3/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups granulated sugar
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 cup sour cream
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 1/2 cup Irish cream liqueur

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.
  3. In a saucepan, combine Guinness and butter over medium heat until melted.
  4. Whisk in cocoa powder until smooth.
  5. In a large bowl, mix flour, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  6. Add the Guinness mixture, eggs, sour cream, and vanilla. Beat until smooth.
  7. Pour the batter into prepared pans.
  8. Bake for 30-35 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean.
  9. Let the cakes cool for 10 minutes, then remove from pans.
  10. Make the buttercream by beating butter, powdered sugar, and Irish cream until fluffy.
  11. Frost the cooled cakes with the Irish buttercream.

Notes

  • Store leftover cake in an airtight container.
  • For a stronger flavor, add more Guinness to the buttercream.
