  • Author: Georgina sami
  • Total Time: 15 minutes + 2 weeks infusion
  • Yield: 2 cups extract 1x

Description

Homemade Christmas spice extract is a festive blend of cinnamon, nutmeg, cloves, and other spices infused in alcohol to create a rich, aromatic flavoring perfect for holiday baking, drinks, and gifting.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups vodka or rum (high-proof alcohol)
  • 3 cinnamon sticks
  • 6 whole cloves
  • 1 whole nutmeg (grated)
  • 1 tablespoon allspice berries
  • 2 tablespoons fresh or dried ginger
  • 12 tablespoons honey or maple syrup (optional)
  • 1 clean, airtight glass jar

Instructions

  1. Gather all ingredients including alcohol, spices, and jar.
  2. Prepare the spices: grate nutmeg, break ginger into pieces if dried, and leave other spices whole.
  3. Place spices into the jar and pour in alcohol until fully submerged. Add sweetener if using. Seal tightly.
  4. Store jar in a cool, dark place for at least 2 weeks, shaking gently every few days. For stronger flavor, let infuse up to 1 month.
  5. Strain mixture using cheesecloth or fine mesh strainer and transfer liquid to a clean, dark glass bottle.
  6. Label and store in a cool, dark place for up to 1 year. Shake before use.

Notes

Use high-quality, fresh spices for best results. Experiment with variations like cardamom, star anise, vanilla beans, or orange peel. Alternative alcohol bases such as bourbon, rum, or brandy create unique flavor profiles.
