- 1 cup whole milk
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1/4 cup unsalted butter
- 1 packet (2 1/4 teaspoons) active dry yeast
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 large egg
Instructions
- In a large mixing bowl, combine warm milk and sugar. Stir until dissolved.
- Sprinkle yeast over the mixture and let sit for 5–10 minutes until frothy.
- Add melted butter, egg, and salt. Mix to combine.
- Gradually add flour, mixing until a dough forms.
- Knead on a floured surface for 8–10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
- Place dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise for 1 to 1.5 hours until doubled in size.
- Punch down the dough, shape into a log, and place in a greased loaf pan.
- Cover and let rise again for 30–45 minutes.
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Bake for 30–35 minutes until golden brown.
- Let cool 10 minutes in the pan, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
- Slice and toast the bread until golden brown. Serve with desired toppings.
Notes
Use fresh yeast and whole milk for best results. You can freeze slices for up to 3 months. Try sweet or savory toppings for variety.
