Ingredients

  • 1/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 3 large egg yolks
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch
  • Pinch of salt

Instructions

  1. In a saucepan, heat the milk over medium heat until hot but not boiling.
  2. In a bowl, whisk together sugar, cocoa powder, cornstarch, and salt.
  3. In another bowl, whisk the egg yolks.
  4. Gradually add the hot milk to the egg yolks while whisking.
  5. Pour the mixture back into the saucepan and cook on low heat until thickened.
  6. Remove from heat and stir in vanilla extract.
  7. Pour the custard into small cups and refrigerate until set.
