A rich, vibrant twist on classic cinnamon rolls, these Red Velvet Cinnamon Rolls are soft, fluffy, and packed with cocoa-cinnamon flavor, topped with luscious cream cheese frosting.

- 1 cup warm milk (about 110°F)
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
- 1 large egg
- 1 tablespoon cocoa powder

- 1 packet (2 1/4 teaspoons) active dry yeast
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 2 tablespoons red food coloring
- 1/2 cup brown sugar, packed
- 2 tablespoons ground cinnamon
- 1/4 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 8 oz cream cheese, softened
- 1/4 cup unsalted butter, softened (for frosting)
- 2 cups powdered sugar
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract (for frosting)
Instructions
- In a small bowl, combine warm milk and sugar, sprinkle yeast on top, and let it sit until frothy (5-10 mins).
- In a large bowl, whisk flour, cocoa powder, and salt.
- Add yeast mixture, melted butter, egg, vanilla extract, and red food coloring to flour mixture and mix to form a dough.
- Knead the dough for 5-7 minutes on a floured surface until smooth and elastic.
- Place dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise for 1 hour or until doubled.
- For the filling, mix brown sugar and cinnamon, then blend in softened butter to form a paste.
- Roll out risen dough into a rectangle (1/4 inch thick), spread filling evenly over surface.
- Roll dough tightly from long side and cut into 12 pieces.
- Place rolls in greased baking dish, cover, and let rise 30 minutes.
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Bake rolls for 25-30 minutes until golden.
- While baking, prepare frosting: beat cream cheese and butter until smooth, add powdered sugar and vanilla, and mix until creamy.
- Spread frosting over warm rolls and serve.
Notes
Let rolls cool slightly before frosting to prevent the frosting from melting too much. For a deeper red color, adjust food coloring as needed.
