Description

Spicy edamame yaki onigiri is a flavorful Japanese rice ball filled with spicy edamame and grilled to perfection.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups sushi rice
  • 2 1/2 cups water
  • 1 cup shelled edamame
  • 2 tablespoons sriracha sauce
  • 1 tablespoon soy sauce
  • 1 teaspoon sesame oil
  • Salt to taste
  • Nori sheets, cut into strips

Instructions

  1. Rinse sushi rice under cold water until water runs clear.
  2. Combine rice and water in a pot and bring to a boil. Reduce heat, cover, and simmer for 20 minutes.
  3. Remove from heat and let rice sit for 10 minutes, covered.
  4. In a bowl, mix edamame, sriracha, soy sauce, sesame oil, and salt.
  5. Once rice is cool, wet your hands and take a handful of rice.
  6. Flatten the rice in your hand, add a spoonful of the edamame mixture, and shape the rice around it into a ball.
  7. Heat a grill pan over medium heat and grill onigiri for 3-4 minutes on each side until golden brown.
  8. Serve warm, wrapped with nori strips.

Notes

  • You can adjust the spiciness by adding more or less sriracha.
  • Make sure to keep your hands wet to prevent rice from sticking.
